Is Instagram enough — or do I need my own website?

August 2026 · by Jaden & Lukas

“But we're on Instagram” is something we hear a lot — and it's fair enough: a well-kept profile with real pictures from the business is worth more than a dusty website from 2014. Even so, one doesn't replace the other. They have different jobs.

What Instagram is good at

Attention. People discover you, see your work, get a feel for the place. Instagram is your shop window on the high street — people stop, look in, remember you.

What Instagram can't do

  • Be found when someone is searching. Whoever googles “electrician Potsdam” or asks an AI finds websites — not your reels.
  • Give the simple answers. Opening hours, prices, services, directions: on Instagram that's scattered across posts and story highlights. On a website it sits where people expect it.
  • Belong to you. Your profile is rented. If the algorithm changes the rules or your account gets suspended — and that happens faster than you'd think — your entire online presence is gone. Your website is yours.
  • Build trust with everyone. Part of your customer base isn't on Instagram. To them, without a website, you're simply invisible.
Instagram brings you attention. The website turns it into enquiries. Together they're strong — on their own, both limp.

The combination that works

Instagram sparks interest, the website closes: your profile carries the link, and on the website people find prices, services and how to reach you — and get found by people searching who don't know you yet. A small, good website is entirely enough for that. It doesn't have to be big. It has to be there.

In short

Keep your Instagram — it's valuable. But build it a home that belongs to you. What does that cost? Work it out in two minutes.
